| DESIGN NAME: Wildgree PRIMARY FUNCTION: Packaging INSPIRATION: The idea is based on creating a durable and functional package design, with recycled materials. The inspiration came from Deepmountains eco-friendly wooden wallets. They are shipped worldwide and need great protection and durability in their packaging. In the eco-friendly spirit of the wallets, the packaging is made with recycled corrugated cardboard, that can be used again and again. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Five pieces of recycled corrugated cardboard are layered, offering the product all the protection it needs and holding it into place. Wildgree defines a negative space which can be filled and completed by the product that is protected by itself. In this sense, there is organic yet simple relation between product and its package, Wildgree. The key of the package design is a simple connection between layers and bolt nut. The bolt nut holds the layers in place, creating a different and easy opening to the package. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Recyclable and durable package for Deepmountain wooden wallets. Easy and eco-friendly production process. The wallet is placed into the layers made of corrugated cardboards which overlap each other. Because of its layered nature it is more durable than classic cardboard packages. To open the package, cut the green sticker, the bolt nut allow the top cardboard layer to twist to the side and open. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The main material of the Wildgree is corrugated cardboard which is durable and affordable. The corrugated cardboard is collected and recycled from cardboard pieces and packages, that would otherwise just have been thrown away and not recycled. They are cut into shape, layered and held into place with a bolt nut. The materials used are recycled corrugated cardboards, a green sticker and a bolt nut. The print on the package is made with digital print. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 140mm x Depth 19mm x Height 140mm TAGS: Recycle, Package, Corrugated Cardboard, Green Planet, Eco Friendly, Deepmountain, Wooden Wallet, Wildgree RESEARCH ABSTRACT: For affordable and recyclable packaging, eco-friendly product should be almost free in production while keeping our environment clean and green. In researching for eco-friendly materials, we found that used corrugated cardboard, which would just have been thrown away, is very easily accessible. Re-using used cardboard pieces is a perfect recycling method for our design, Wildgree. CHALLENGE: The challenge was to design an aesthetic package which must be durable for worldwide shipping, with affordable and easy production process. In addition it must be easy open the package to attract consumers when they receive it, so only one bolt nut is used in the design. NAME: Deepmountain Boardriders Company PROFILE: Deepmountain was founded as a boardriders company in 2015 by two surfer brothers, but history of Deepmountain is older than founded. Their workshop is in their grand uncles dockyard which wooden sailboats have been built in Bodrum since 1972 and they grew up with sawdust of wooden boats and saltwater. The idea of the brand ensued in 2014 when founder, Ilker, was trying to build his own wooden surfboard in his workshop. His first wooden surfboard looked like okay but it couldn't work as he expected. However working in the workshop with natural materials planted the seed of Deepmountain as a sustainable lifestyle concept for all people. The first product is a wooden wallet and the prototypes of wallets were created, while building up the idea of eco-friendly wood products for all. They are working hard to improve the company in order to create new designs and products in the workshop now. Hopefully their workshop is going to be one of the major brands so that they can provide you much more interesting hand-made designs. |
