DESIGN NAME: 3bee
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bicycle Frame
INSPIRATION: The 3bee is inspired by the shape of the human body while riding a bicycle. The goal was to design a bicycle which is perfectly adjusted to its user, creating the ideal harmony between man and machine. The other goal was to decrease the number of components of the frame with an integrated seat. With this innovation the time between two services increases.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The 3bee bicycle frame is a 3D printable sports equipment with a goal to make bicycles fully customizable. With the integrated seat the bike is fully adjusted to its user from the beginning of the production. The 3D printing technique enables the owner to personalize the bike with different kind of parts. The number of variations are almost infinite since all kind of bike parts are compatible with this frame because the size of the joints can be scaled.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This bicycle is designed for urban transportation while evoking the design of racing bicycles. It can easily be controlled in the streets owing to its slim and light body. Furthermore, its user can easily carry it anywhere on the shoulder thanks to the curved shape of the frame.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April, 2015 in Budapest
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Vehicle, Mobility and Transportation Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The advantage of the simultaneously designed and 3D printed frame against the traditional ones is that it does not need any assembly, tuning and follow-up adjustment after its use, since it perfectly adjusts to the user. The frame is hollow, except in the joints where it is solid. This way the bicycle is lightweight and durable at the same time. The frame can be extended at three different points and can be tilted at one point. It is fully adjustable to the rider without distorting the main shape.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The frame is fully customizable.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research started with the studying of the connection between the human body and the bicycle. The research objective was to find a way to maximize the ergonomic features and functionality.
CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge was to find a shape that is fully ergonomic and can be extended at certain points, without distorting the main shape.
