DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Sling

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Portable speaker

INSPIRATION:
Although Sling does not use the traditional sustainable material, its form factor and mechanism was inspired by the shape of split log. With two isosceles triangle sectioned separate speaker units also is the most compact and effective form factor for the speaker driver.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Sling is a sustainable portable speaker yet not of the conventional type. Unlike the common belief, environmental impact portable speakers make mainly roots from energy waste rather than material. Sling aims to change the user behavior and actively involve users in making changes to the environment by energy reduction. Power is activated by placing the speaker units serially. Which makes turning off done simply by pulling the cord making the speaker units in a closed position for carrying.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Power control of the speaker is operated by the magnetic sensor on the facing sides of the two speaker units. The speaker is turned on by placing the two speaker units serially and it is turned off by separating them. When the user pulls the cord and lift the speaker up, the speaker units get separated and turns off.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in September 2015 and finished in October 2015 in London

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Fabric covers the side surfaces of Sling where inner frame is injection molded. Fabric texture gives the natural use wear which is also a sustainable design factor. Fabric must be a suitable for the speaker screen application.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
60mm X 60mm X 210mm

TAGS:
Sustainable design, Speaker, Portable, Bluetooth

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
