PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Boxes are made of 300 g packaging cardboard GC1 and GC2 with mate protection lacquer finish. Each pattern is embossed with a laser-cut zinc die. Jars are made out of Miron violet glass, which blocks the complete spectrum of visible light with the exception of the violet part and allows a certain part to be permeable for radiation in the spectre of UV-A, and infra red light. This offers optimal protection against damage caused by visible light, thus increasing durability and potency of products.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Soapmill is positioned akin to luxury brands in quality, but done with the care and attention specific to a handmade product. We had to find the balance between the flawless finishings of a premium brand and the intimacy of an artisanal one. We attained the latter with a close, tactile, user-product bond. The user is allured by the subtle shadow play, rather than flashy finishings. The luxury feel is gained by the precision of the details, quality of recipients, and the fully embossed surface.
CHALLENGE: The challenge was to find an impactful solution that best expresses the brand position, as both premium and handmade, without burdening an already high marginal cost. We chose to enfold the package in embossed texture and to use regular cardboard and one colour and black print. The solution generates a high initial cost, due to the cost of the reusable zinc dies, but it brings a big cost reduction for further editions. The money saved from production were invested in high quality glass jars.
