DESIGN NAME: Y TABLE
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Table
INSPIRATION: Y TABLE form is derived from the mid-20th century modernist architecture, where expressive reinforced concrete is used.
The tension in the structural elements is expressed in heroic forms.
Brazilian’s Oscar Niemeyer cathedral is one of the best examples.
In a similar manner, Reda Amalou created the Y table as a complex structural composition while offering a pure, elegant form.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Y TABLE was conceived as an architectural object.
It is a table, in essence. But its form, structure and materials define it differently, voluntarily bringing architecture into an everyday life object. The eight ‘Y’ members that form the central pedestal of the table, are linked together only at the tip, barely touching each other.
The point of contact between each Y element is minimal.
Each ‘Y’ stands with each of its branches carefully detailed to create a ‘folding’ pattern, continuous

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The “Y” structure defines a space at the centre of the object; the glass slab as well as the shadow created by the transparency of the material makes the user aware of the presence of the object. It functions perfectly as a table, but you also relate to the space it creates.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The Y TABLE consists of

American walnut, black steel and extra clear glass
