DESIGN NAME: Ascended Ply
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Juice Served Here - Studio City
INSPIRATION: The inspiration for the contrast of materials, on the exterior and interior, was to break the heavy pedestrian street elevation with an inset patio. The wooden geometrical entry is carved out from the black monolithic stucco massing, complementing the elevation. Inside, the geometrical wall paneling is backlit with warm led lights that perimeter shelving merchandise and flanked wall treatment. Patrons have suggested the paneling having acoustical properties that subdue the outside noise.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Nestled in 800 square feet space, the entryway to the project was setback into a patio, drawing an escape from the window with a zero setback streetscape. The patio walls are paneled with Baltic Birch wooden geometry and a pivoting storefront glass door. The paneling continues into the shop, pulling notice to the height and ceiling architecture, compensating for the space’s narrow width. Raw materials and exposed joists surround the interior and a skylight to wash the space with natural light.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We streamlined the project delivery method through our in house design and build process structure. Our team collaborated in unison with the client to provide an indepth creative solution. The client wanted flow and transition from seated exterior to point of sale, a warm inviting place with simple effective menu visualizations and clean modern lines. We generated a planset of construction drawings for approval by the Department of Building and Safety and the County Department of Public Health.
