DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Circle of Light

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Suspension Lamp

INSPIRATION:
Inspiration arose from the problem encountered while searching for a suspension lamps of magnitude proportions - there was literally nothing to chose from. The design of the lamp body was inspired by celestial bodies in the sky: as in a natural world, so in a man made environment, the source of light resembles Sun, Moon or Stars.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The charisma of the lamp lies in its celestial silhouette and colossal dimensions - 1.7 m in diameter. It creates daring statement if hung alone and blends in perfectly if contextualised. It perfectly complements commercial as well as residential venues – able to oversee open spaces and be accentuated by them too. Light beam projected down to the plate bounces upwards and reflects from the cupola achieving uniform light dispersion and indirect illumination of settings.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Circle of Light is a solution to open and airy spaces, it offers a lamp body of magnitude and a celestial silhouette that perfectly blends in in high ceiling and vast areas. Another key function in performs is designating spaces of interest. The sphere frame of the suspension lamp and the reflected light it casts enfolds the areas underneath it.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
First sketches of Circle of Light suspension lamp were jotted down in the winter of 2014, in the beginning of 2015 the first prototype was manufactured, while 2016 witnessed first installations of the Circle of Light in commercial (Lithuania) and residential (the Netherlands) interiors.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Furniture Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The sphere is made out of fiberglass and has a gelcoat surface, the light source is LED (11000 lumen). The lamp is also characterized by clean hanging system: wire is covered within a thin tube.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
Variation of sizes (width x height): 1700 mm x 550 mm; 1200 mm x 400 mm; 900 mm x 400 mm.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:

CHALLENGE:
Inspiration comes from the challenge: there is an issue in the market of suspension lamps – lack of lamps of magnitude, of industrial dimensions. Attempt to locate a lamp for a high ceiling living room of 80 square meters led to the design of the Circle of Light. When you not only seek to light up the kitchen table, but also yearn to mark the entire zone of dining. Reflected light solution also arises from the issue of the blinding light: this was notice and solved after installing a prototype.
