DESIGN NAME: Dewdrop
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Earring
INSPIRATION: The inspiration for these earrings comes from dewdrops as they are naturally formed on plants at early dawn. Dewdrops symbolise new beginnings, a sense of freshness and pristine surroundings. Glistening upon twigs, leaves and petals, dew is a nurturing element that represents a precious and present moment in time that contains infinite possibilities.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Inspired by nature, this piece transforms the organic form of a branch into wearable art. Subtle movable parts within the earring enable free motion, synchronous with the natural movement of the wearer, creating a kinetic harmony between them. These movements catch the light from every angle, adding another element of energy to this dynamic design. The subtlety of this design is based on the belief that the flow of life has continuity, yet always remains in a state of wholeness. Icy jade cabochons adorn the piece with beads of light and purity. Blue sapphires are used as a reflection of the sky while brown diamonds represent the earth. By using these different materials, the drop is instilled with the idea that there is a whole heaven within it. This cosmic concept carries the message of an ancient Chinese philosophy: the harmony among heaven, earth and man.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Dewdrop earring is a combination of traditional oriental philosophy and modernity at different levels: 1, materials selection; 2, considering the piece and the wearer as a whole during design.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in June 2015 in Hong Kong and finalised in Hong Kong in December 2015.
