DESIGN NAME: Hot Rotating Silicon Brush
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Hair Styler
INSPIRATION: To design a next generation brush for professional hair stylist, which can replace the traditional salon process of hair polishing - brushing hair with round brush rotating by one hand continuously & blow-drying with hairdryer on the hand at the same time.
& also to solve the disadvantage of traditional bristle brush, which always tangle with hair when brushing / rotating.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: RB844 is an innovative tool specially design for professional hair stylist. The instant hot barrel & the automatic rotating brush replaced the traditional salon process of hair polishing(blow-drying+brushing hair with round brush rotating by hand continuously), helps detangling & styling hair quickly. The silicon teeth is designed to solve the disadvantage of traditional bristle brush(easily deformed & tangled with hair)the elasticity of silicon teeth prevent tangle with hair, more safe to use.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: For Basic Hair Brushing & Smoothing:
Switch on the unit with rotating speed setting 02 (Fast)
Wait for 2 minutes to heat up the barrel.
Just press the rotating switch to start the rotating of brush & use it as normal hair brush.
With the rotating silicon teeth & the heated metal barrel, hair can be brushed & polished quickly.
For Volume with Flipped up Hair Ends:
Switch on the unit with rotating speed setting 01 (slow)
Wait for 2 minutes to heat up the barrel.
Select a section of hair ( with width of 1-2 inches).
Press the rotating switch to start the rotating of brush
Placed the rotating brush on the hair ends inside or outside (depends on style of Flipped in or out)
Keep Brushing for 5 seconds to create nature flipped up style, or longer for bigger / more volume effects.
For Hair Curling :
Switch on the unit with rotating speed setting 01 (slow)
Wait for 3 minutes to heat up the barrel.
Select a section of hair ( with width of 1-2 inches).
Placed the hair ends on the barrel & in-between the silicon teeth.
Press the rotating switch to roll up the hair & release the switch to stop the rotation (depends on hair length & desired length of curled hair)
Hold for 3 – 10 seconds (depends on hair length & desired length of curled hair)
Release the hair from the barrel by rolling back the barrel for more tight & tidy results.
Dry Hair by Towel or Hairdryer before using.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2011 in Hong Kong and finished 2014 in Hong Kong and was exhibited in Red Dot Design Museum Essen from 2015-2016.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The Major parts of the design is the heated barrel (over 200C) & Silicon brush Teeth. Different to any other hair brush, the brush is made with Silicon Teeth, prevent tangling with hair. The dimension & location of each silicon teeth & heating area on the barrel are specially designed for the rotational movement, to achieve best hair brushing & styling results.

R&D process was carried out to identify the right material, right parameters for designing the unique brush teeth, which can help professionals to create different types of hair style, & overcome the existing hair brush problems, & can stand for the heavy usage in Professional Salon.
