Light ● Axis
Based on the puritan Christian values, this building from the founding era of the institution is revitalized with a new heritage 60 years after.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Situated in a welcoming location, this plain rectangular building is endowed with a blossoming flower bed in the front and a lush lawn in the back, with a bell tower decorated with a cross standing in the left half.
After more than a half century, the original layout of the administrative building of the university now appears to be outdated. The high walls block the light, making the long corridor gloomy.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
1st floor of the building is encased with the minimum amount of wall structure. The open design allows the inflow of light and air; the transparent space is wrapped by the greenery of the outside lawn.
Within the rectangular building, the beam columns define the two axis perpendicular to each other.
The short one connects the lawn in the front and back of the building.
The long one connects the two opposite spaces on left and right.
By adding a 15 degree angle to the stone wall, it points to the bell tower with the cross and subtly reinforces the spiritual direction of the school.
