| DESIGN NAME: Dom Pechati PRIMARY FUNCTION: Public Space INSPIRATION: A place itselve was an inspiration: old brick walls, metal frames etc. To give the interior a character corresponding to the historical site, were used the European cult furniture in style of 50-60 years and it was balanced by the Russian furniture of the same period of time. So, some of the interior objects were selected on ads during the construction process and were brought to the site, for example, carpets, cupboards, filing cabinets. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a new design for an old place. This project was implemented in 2013-2014 in the former warehouse of printed products of typography called Ural Worker built by architect G.A. Golubev in 1929-1930. The new space of the project is a multifunctional, designed for non-stop operation in the restaurant and night club formats, as well as for the cultural events: lectures, exhibitions, presentations and receptions. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This place is in use for 24 hours: in the daytime it is a restaurant and a public space for any purpose, and at night is becomes a night club or a concert stage, which is very popular among young people in the city. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2013 and finished in 2014 in Yekaterinburg city, Russia. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Interior Space and Exhibition Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The printing house was built with innovative in those days technology - on a reinforced concrete frame. Existing since the beginning of the 30s of the XX century floors, walls and ceilings were completely cleaned and treated for preservation characteristic pristine construction materials in the finished interior. Was conducted some partial restorations, coverings with special primers and varnishes. At least, so did most of perimeter walls. Floor surfaces were covered with primer and then coated with varnish and parquet flooring made of plywood, which lamellas were painted directly on the site. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Total square is 1024 sq.meters This place was not appropriate for any function, but when all the systems such as ventilation, heating, electricity, water supply were installed, it became a good place with pleasant atmosphere. TAGS: Loft, interior design, Russian style, restaurant, night club RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The main idea was to save as much as possible of old materials and constuctions. The new ones were the same or completed each other: brick, concrete, wood. Moreover, this space consisted of a cold warehouse and required considerable works on engineering systems and building envelopes. In the process of working on the project, there have been made an examination and strengthen of bearing structures, reconstruction of the roof, partial unification of initial spaces, blocks of windows and doors were replaced, was carried out water system, building heating system, electricity, ventilation system. CHALLENGE: This project was very hard but interesting. It gave a lot of different challenges and objectives, such as how to make a new space with attractive design in an old almost ruined house, saving its spirit of constuctivism which is a "visit card" of our city. So, combinig seemingly incongruous elements we got a unique modern place, which is loved by the citizens.
