| DESIGN NAME: HONGMEI 21 PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential, Architecture, Ransformation INSPIRATION: Living in the Shanghai for densely populated to find the minimalist style of private house with a garden is very difficult. By reforming the old house then to give old house new vitality of "modern minimalist" style, at the same time maximize the garden landscape and sunshine into the indoor and to achieve indoor and outdoor no boundaries of visual effect, then to enjoy the interaction of the sunshine and nature. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a renovation project for an old house, the overall design includes: building structure and facade, then to the garden landscape then extends to the interior design. The old house has more than 20years age and inhabited by three generations. Both to realization of homeowners the ideal minimalist style, but also to meet the residence for comfort and practical of elderly and children of realize the practicability and visual aesthetic unity and harmony of space. Cannot be rebuild only can be renovation, under the condition of retain the original building structure do extension and reinforcement, back to the old house "minimalist&quo OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: At the beginning of the design, we have identified style of white-minimalist, but there is no specific mode, transform unfavorable to the development of the minimalist conditions as the main design elements. Simplify and Bandon is the main elements of interior, hide all functions: air-conditioning outlet, handles, lamps, lanterns, curtain, etc. For sitting-room 3m wide of electric floor-to-ceiling frameless glass-door to maximize put garden landscape and sunlight incorporate into the indoor, then to achieve the effect of indoor and outdoor without limits. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Sustainability of the design, only keep the roof and structure of old house, removed 3 beams and added 10 vertical beams. For sitting-room the distance between the load-bearing column is only 3.5m wide, so the whole building framework in the direction to the garden parallel moved 1.5m. By building facade, use "BOX" as the basis for design elements, flattening the sloping roofs and change to the balcony with larger floor-to-ceiling windows, change the eaves into overhanging type and divided into useful for terrace and awning, hide all frames (windows and door), lights, pipe wells, drains, etc. Through the analysis, cutting, trade-offs, restructuring of the structure and facade for the building to give old house new life. CHALLENGE: As the old house itself has the space and building structure is unreasonable, these unreasonable is a great challenge of designer, such as: the fragile structure(brick concrete),exposed pipe (storm sewer and pipe wells),indoor function division is unreasonable, the distance between sitting-room beams is too narrow, the window is too small and daylighting is very poor, store content function limit, and need to add an elevator(convenient to the aged up and down the stairs)and so on, these ensuing problems are challenges for the designer.
