| DESIGN NAME: Steeli PRIMARY FUNCTION: Desk lamp INSPIRATION: The creation of the lamp was inspired by the democratic design. By taking such approach it is possible to save materials, transportation and storage costs. I was inspired by the flat, bendable and solid materials. The product is made from bendable metal involute with attached light source. The product is packed and stored in a flat pack. The user has only to fold the involute according to the instructions and the product is ready for use. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The most unique feature of this table lamp lies in its simplicity. The lamp is chosen according to the nature of work. The agile lamp with a static light flux is suitable when one needs a direct light to the work table, as well as light accent in the Interior. The lamp is made of solid metal sheet and can be used at home or in public areas. The lamp is made without small, vulnerable, adjustable parts therefore it's safe and highly sustainable. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The lamp is prepared by unpacking the involute from the box and bending according to the given instruction. The operation is very simple. The lamp is mobile, has a sliding pad, therefore, can be easily shifted from one side of the table to the other. As you move the lamp closer or further the strength and direction of the light can be adjusted. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in November 2015 and was finished in first week of 2016, Vilnius, Lithuania. Was exhibited in Vilnius Academy of Arts in January 2016 and later participated in the exhibition of lamps "9 ½ Weeks", in gallery "Galera", Vilnius, Lithuania. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: STEELI desk lamp made from a single sheet of bent metal. Water cutting machine, bending presses and drill machine were used. Painted in white. Cold colored 10 W LED lights, integrated in the aluminum profile, white felt pad, wire and a switch. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Lamp is 326 x 320 x 140 mm size. If mass produced, the lamp involute is to be packed into box, parameters of the 785 x 235 x 30 mm size. TAGS: desk lamp, table lamp, lighting, fresh, minimal, steel, sheet, white RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I was hoping to find a way to create a lamp out of single material. So that there wouldn't be any additional combinations of the materials, also the phases of gluing and welding. I carried out a reasearch of plastic, cardboard and metal. I discovered that metal was the most suitable material for my idea. I decided to make a product that is suitable for mass production: good looking and easily made. The production must be: extremely frugal, logical, require little parings, fast. This version of a lamp has been selected from a huge variety of layouts. The story of the making process relates to the exterior of a lamp. It is made only from a few stages, remains minimal but looks aesthetic and has a distinct character. I was aspired to uncover the parts of the lamp, such as the wire, because all the components in this lamp are important, so they can aesthetically blend into the object. CHALLENGE: The most difficult thing was to find a proper involute to maintain the character. It was essential that the lamp involutes would be cut compactly, also that making and cutting transcripts would make as less strips as possible. There were many layouts created, but this layout is chosen because it's the most compact, and because of it's distinct character. Also it was tricky finding the right thickness of the involute.
