DESIGN NAME: Naja Serpent Ring
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Man Ring
INSPIRATION: Ring for man shaped as a square. The square is one of the most significant frequently used shapes amongst the symbols, and it is deemed a static shape, anchored on its four sides. According to Christian tradition, squares symbolize the cosmos, the four phases of life, and the cardinal There is no end to the ring. The most important idea behind the design is the symbol of always having open pathways to follow in life and never closed or ending pathways.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: More than a piece of jewelry, this ring for man was inspired by several meaningful elements for law school graduates. Far from being a traditional college ring, Naja serpent ring is a unique and handmade piece.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Choosing a round stone in the form of a circle. The shape of a circle is associated to the point and both may be deemed supreme signs of perfection, union and completeness. The point symbolized the center and divinity, and also translates movement, expansion and time. Moreover, it represents the sky, heaven and the cosmic order of astrology. Ruby is the gem that symbolized law students, and represents life, safety and Peace. Just one ruby gem because each being is unique and the stone represents individuality, each unique being.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project takes two months and was created and produced in Brasil. Was designed by Marcelo Lopes and handmade manufactured by artorafo.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The design of this ring as a contemporary version of a naja serpent. In Egypt lie the lost roots of Christian wisdom, serpents were commonly used in alabaster vases during the reign of the Pharaohs. Iareret, the naja serpent, was the symbol of divine protection for the royal authority. Symbol of royalty, spiritual evolution, Kundalini. Power that protected the source of life and immortality and a symbol used on the pharaohs headdresses.
CHALLENGE: College rings, especially for law students, are generally very traditional and the idea was to design a contemporary piece of jewelry with a set of symbols represented by the square, the ring never closes itself, the cabouchon ruby, the movement in the swiveling diamonds, the naja serpent and the straight lines representing life and its pathway. Graduation year in 2015 plus give 8, represented by the eight swiveling diamonds. Number eight is also the symbol for infinity, money and abundance.
