| DESIGN NAME: VBookcase PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bookshelf INSPIRATION: The VBookcase’s design was inspired by people who hold hands. The VBookcase, thanks to its zigzag shaped shelves, adds many books end to end, just like its source of inspiration. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The VBookcase, which was designed in a manner that could be used in different forms, such as double, triple and quadruple, can constitute alternative designs by increasing the vertical parts and number of shelves. The shelves of the VBookcase in the zigzag shape, which are fixed with connection elements, are assembled in a practical manner by passing the vertical carrying parts into the notched parts. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The VBookcase has sufficient storage capacity as well as an esthetic appearance. The VBookcase can be used in homes and offices. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The melamine coated Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) material, which is possible to be reused and whose wastes are almost completely recyclable, was preferred in the production of the VBookcase. The parts that are fixed to each other by attaching treenails or minifix fitting elements to the holes opened at the heads of the horizontal angled shelves, are assembled in a practical manner by passing the notched parts in the ratio of ¾ of the vertical carrying parts without using any connection elements. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The width, height and thickness dimensions of the vertical carrying parts of the VBookcase are 28x144.4x1.8 cm, whereas, the angled shelves are 25x34x1.8 cm. The parts of the binary VBookcase for total of 645 each binary VBookcase boxes with a maximum weight of 25 kg each can be placed and transported in a 20 cubic foot container. The dimensions of the assembled binary VBookcase are 118 cm (w) x 32 cm (d) x 144.4 cm (h). CHALLENGE: In contrast to the bookcase designs that have flat shelves, which are used prevalently, the VBookcase provides the opportunity to store books in a slanted position, thanks to the angled shelves in a zigzag shape. NAME: VBookcase PROFILE: Kemal Yıldırım, the designer of the VBookcase, is presently employed as a Professor at the Gazi University in Ankara, Turkey. Prof. Yıldırım has written over 80 national and international scientific articles in the field of Furniture and Interior Space Design. He won the “Unions of Exporters Grand Prize” with the design called AngledBOX in the Office Furniture Professional Category at the “Eighth National Furniture Design Competition” organized by the Unions of Exporters of Turkey on 10 April 2015. Furthermore, he won “Second Prize” with the design called Life Bed at the “Furniture Design Competition for Saving Lives in an Earthquake” that was opened within the scope of the Fifth International Kocaeli Earthquake Symposium held on 11 June 2015. |
