Slim Reusable Waterbottles.
The memobottle was born from two main frustrations that the creators saw in society.
Firstly, the increasing number of plastic water bottles being consumed and ending up in our waterways and in landfill.
Secondly, that existing round water bottles were not optimized for transportation and were unable to fit within carry bags or laptop bags.
The aim of memobottle is to inspire a more reusable society and create a balance between improved life convenience and environmental responsibility.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Flat is the new round
The memobottle is a slim premium reusable water bottle that takes on the dimensions of the A5 and A6 international paper sizes, allowing it to conveniently slide into your laptop and carry bags or even into your pocket.
The creators decided to flip the equation with an aim to design a product that was optimized for transportation but still held the functionality of traditional water bottles. Transparent and minimal the memobottle has become one of the design icons of the year.
The memobottle has become a vehicle that changes society’s mentality around how water can be transported and consumed. The aim of memobottle is to reduce single use bottle consumption, inspire a reusable society and create a balance between improved life convenience and environmental responsibility.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The creators had experienced the frustrations of trying to fit round water bottles into laptop and carry bags. At the time, all water bottles were designed around the ease of manufacture. Because of this, car holders, bike holders and accessories followed suit. The creators decided to flip the equation, with an aim to design a product that was optimized for transportation but still held the functionality of traditional water bottles.
The memobottle fits effectively in carry bags, laptop bags and within the bag pocket. Not only is it allowing people to conveniently carry water with them and stay hydrated it is educating society on the harmful effects of single-use bottles.
The memobottle is easy to hold and effective to drink from due to it's optimized neck positioning.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The idea of the memobottle was formed years ago by Product Design Engineer and co-founder Jesse Leeworthy but it wasn't until 2014 that Jesse and co-founder Jonathan Byrt decided to turn the memobottle in to a reality. The memobottle launched on Kickstarter in August 2014. The A5 memobottle was launched to the public in June 2015 and the A6 memobottle in October 2015.
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
A key feature of the memobottle is its transparency. In order to achieve the clarity present, the DFM and tool refinement process was extensive. The memobottle is produced using a refined adaptation of extrusion blow moulding.
The memobottle is made from BPA-Free, FDA-approved, cradle-to-cradle certified plastic.

Single use bottle consumption has gone bananas in recent years with 50 billion single use bottles are purchased each year in the US and 1,500 of them are discarded every second. This has a damaging effect on both the environment and our hip pockets.
It’s a common belief that plastic is the devil. However, due to the monstrous embodied energy in aluminium and stainless steel products, considering raw material to product, reusable plastic bottles are actually 80 percent more environmentally friendly than their counterparts.
It is astonishing that in a country that provides clean and accessible drinking water, people would still buy single use water bottles and pay over 1400 times more than perfectly drinkable tap water.
The memobottle was designed to be as minimal as possible to accentuate the true form.
The transparent nature of the memobottle allows it to reflect and interact with it's surroundings; a true chameleon.
It is these aspects that creates true design; where there is nothing left to hide behind.
The positioning of the neck of the memobottle was refined to ensure an optimal user experience. This feature changed the manufacturing process of the memobottle entirely.
