SoFifties collection is inspired to the design principles used in fifties years, when the Streamline style has made of every product an example of aerodynamics in line with the myth of the velocity. The shapes are indeed dynamics but massive to confer them a monolithic aspect.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This new collection is the first of a series of new designs in retro style. SoFifties is a ceramic bathroom suite inspired to the fifties years lines and shapes. The collection is composed by different washbasins with a set of metal stands in different size and materials, through which you can get many configurations. The collection includes matching sanitaries, for a complete vintage bathroom suite taste.

The project started and finished in 2014 in Terni, where the studio Mater is located.
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The washbasins are made in fine fire clay ceramic, instead the sanitaries are made in vitreous china ceramic.

SoFifties collection is composed by 13 pieces. Below specifics and sizes for each one of these:
Washbasins counter top: 44/60 cm x 44 cm x 15 cm.
Suspended washbasins: 50/65/75/100/130 cm x 44/53,6/53,8/54,4/55 cm x 18 cm.
Back to wall wc and bidet: 56 cm x 39 cm x 42 cm.
Wall hung wc and bidet: 56 cm x 39 cm x 35 cm.

I started with a study on the design icons of the fifties. It has been done also a research on the lifestyle of the people and how the economic boom influenced the taste and life in general. I've also analyzed the cinematography, since it is a big database to understand the style of the period. Analyzing all the data that came out from the research, I've thought that a non-extreme and commercial design was the best way.
The request for this collection was to design a bathroom suite inspired by the fabulous Fifties keeping that style and mood in line with the high-level target. The challenge was to create something with a vintage feeling without falling in the stereotyped commercial products. I tried to do something evoking the dynamic lines and formal elegance of vintage design, pointing to an high-level target of clients, sacrificing the trivial fifties style aspects to give more space to a clean fifties one.
