DESIGN NAME: Landcaster
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Kick Scooter
INSPIRATION: I was inspired by traditional umbrella shapes. Having studied the old British gentleman styles, I found that most of them carry a long version umbrella. These styles of umbrella are well crafted and designed. Their forms embody a slim, elegant, and formal appeal seldom seen in personal transports. Applying these design cues transformed my scooter from the ordinary into timeless simplicity.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is the kick scooter for adults. Nowadays, many adults use kick scooters for commuting, specifically in San Francisco, where one can observe suits zooming down the walkways on a scooter. Oddly the suits are not out of place but rather the scooters themselves.
The simple heritage scooter addresses this simple need. A well designed adult scooter, that has portability and convenience at its heart while ensuring no egos in suits is harmed.
The scooter comes equipped with an extendable handle bar, on-board camera and LED lights as a standard.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This is traditional style kick scooter.
Grab the handle with both hands and put one foot on the board and use another foot for pedaling.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in September 2015 and finished in November 2015 in San Francisco.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Observation - Observing people using kick scooter and other various modes of transportation in San Francisco and taking notes and pictures.
Interview - Ask people what is their needs for the perfect business scooter for the working professional.
Study - Based on my observation and interview, I studied more into this target market. Other areas of investigations were about basic elements and types of scooter as well as human factors.
Collecting - Collect trends, material, inspirational images, and mood images.
CHALLENGE: My very own self initiated design project.
Interviewing people in suits during rush hour quickly became the hardest challenge early on. However, a little perseverance can go a long way and slowly but surely I gathered the data.
Design had its own set of challenges. Beginning by overlaying a stack of print outs of existing scooter designs to find the common lines that overlapped. And taking those common points and simplifying repeatedly.
The design was built from the ground up several times with proportioning exercises that went on indefinitely. But the result alone was satisfying enough for my soul.
