| DESIGN NAME: FS 275 Wide PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bowrider Motorboat INSPIRATION: Designing a boat is never easy, as there are hundreds of boatbuilders in Brazil, and tens of thousand across the world, the competition is fierce. So we sought to design something different and focus not solely on a good hull for a comfortable navigation, but also on the visual features and design appeal that a boat has, as it is a dream for most people. We use very different colors than most boat brands, commonly related to those used in high luxury sports cars. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: FS 275 Wide is an innovative motorboat in it's design, as it shows a very distinctive personality when seen both from the outside or the inside. The windshield, for example, unlike any other boat in this category, is made from fiberglass (not aluminium), and integrates with the upper arch to create a single structure, highlighted with a reflective glass to hide the bottom of the arch, creating an impression that the whole structure is being held by the glass. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: FS 275 was awarded BOAT OF THE YEAR in On-Board Comfort category by Nautica Magazine Brazil. The bow has space for 5 people sitting down, but it can be filled with cushions to become a double bed. The couches in the aft can be opened to transform the entire space in a Gourmet Area, with a sink, trash bin, and refrigerator. The pilot seat can be folded so the pilot can navigate while standing up. The bimini top can be entirely closed so the boat becomes protected against rain and wind. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2013, and the final product was launched in October 2014, in Sao Paulo International Boat Show Brazil. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The boat was designed by one of Brazil's most reputed naval engineers, designed in Rhino 3D, and the mold was built in a CNC Router by cutting styropor into design directly from Rhino. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Length: 8,30m Width: 2,76m Weight (without engine): 2.000kg Fuel capacity: 250 liters Water capacity: 150 liters Passenger capacity: 14 people Top speed (with 320hp sterndrive engine): 45mph Fuel consumption while in cruise speed: 35 liters / hour TAGS: boat, motorboat, boat engine, yacht, nautical, cabin cruiser RESEARCH ABSTRACT: FS Yachts already manufactures a 23' foot boat with a small cabin. Many of those customers began asking the boatbuilder for a boat with a larger cockpit, a cabin more comfortable for sleeping in, a more confortable bathroom, a kitchen with a refrigerator, and thereby a more comfortable boating experience. Our answer was to design a boat with maximum cockpit space (open bow), while containing a large bathroom and a nice bedroom, mainly for the use of kids. CHALLENGE: While designing a new boat, there are production issues which must be thought in designing phase. A boat with too many parts will require more staff to produce and a longer lead time. It has to be well finished while being easy to build, and have a large cockpit and cabin space while maintaining good navigability. If the boat cabin is too high, it will affect the boat's gravity point, and it will perform poorly. If the boat is too wide, it will have trouble while accelerating, rise the bow and navigate uncomfortably.
