RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Each bag was designed from the ground up. Ellia began by studying origami techniques, then design ideas, paper samples, revisions and finally leather samples. Each bag went though a revision process. she made at lease 3 different pattern sets and samples for each in order to tested out the best structure and ensure a look that is unique and functional.
CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge is transfer origami techniques to leather, because these two material have completely different properties. Paper is thin and able to memorize folds, but leather has its nature texture, and it’s very soft. Ellia tried couple different methods to apply folds or mimic folds on leather.
