DESIGN NAME: Andamio
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Shelving System
INSPIRATION: The Andamio Shelf is a simple modular shelving system that has been inspired by traditional Indian scaffolding. The system is playing with the spirit of simplicity and functionality through the materials
and compounds of the different parts.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Andamio Shelf consists of two basic levels that can dock to each other and be adjusted to various widths to suit storage needs. The materials are environmentally friendly and consist of wood and metal boards. The assembly itself can be completed without the use of any tools and, once disassembled, the design becomes completely flat-packed. Simplicity and functionality are its strength.
Andamio small: 310 x 580 x H360 mm;
Andamio tall: 310 x 580 x H900 mm
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The wooden sticks can be interlocked into each other to create your personal design. The design adapts on the customer needs.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in November 2011 in Barcelona, finished in April 2015 in Mailand and presented during the Fuorisalone in the ex.t showroom.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research of the indian scaffoldings took place during a 5 month stay in India, in the year 2007/2008. We used all the material, like photos and samples from that time to analyse the structures and to adapt their usage to a modern shelf.
CHALLENGE: The main idea behind Andamio, was to reduce the chaos which you might be seen in asian scaffoldings from India. We wanted to take a part of its origin usage but to transform it into a modern contemporary language. It was really important to keep its origin as it can be flat packed and assambled without any tools.
