DESIGN NAME: Atossa 3D Printed Footwear
PRIMARY FUNCTION: 3D printed Footwear
INSPIRATION: Now a day we are using 3D printers just for prototyping! What if we can use it as a final production method?
With this way, we can ignore many steps of the production. Also, we can take care of the user needs (customization, ergonomics, ...) and user experience.
In addition with this way you can reduce the environmental impacts by decreasing the parts and numbers of materials!
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project is focused on developing a range of design concepts for printable footwear. The idea is to build a consumer based system, which reduces labor for manufacturing and provides ease of access to new products for consumers.
By developing a range of stylish footwear design concepts, the production process would speed up and the costs of production would be reduced. This idea will allow everyone to use prepared designs and print usable products on their personal 3D printers.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: I thought maybe it's not the best democratic way to provide people who have different types of foot with a single type of shoes. You know that It gets even worse when it comes to high heels!
So in my design these three main features are considered:
Ergonomics, style and sustainability.
We care about look and comfort! So, you can have your stylish footwear which actually matches with your feet’s unique features.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in September 2014 in Rochester and finished in April 2015 in Rochester, and was exhibited in Bevier Gallery at RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology) in April 2015.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Based on user needs and the potential that I found in 3D printing technology as a manufacturing method I started to design a series of ergonomic and stylish 3D printed footwear.
Also no needs to worry about the environmental impacts. It's been made by Bio materials (Polylactic acid (PLA)) which is 100% recyclable!
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 170 mm x 250 Depth mm x 168 Height mm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Atossa started as an idea for redesigning industrial and social systems that deliver the products to people. Based on my interest in fashion design, I started to study its market and tried to find something more of a product than a mere fashion element. I decided to design shoes, a product that could both satisfy my desire for fashion industry and besides, it could be 3D printed!
I have done some research on following areas:
Fashion, fashion markets, footwear market, footwear essential design, High heels design, types of High heels, foot anatomy, foot problems and disease, 3D printing, types of 3D printers, 3D printing benefits, 3D printing processes, 3D printing materials and sustainability and etc.
CHALLENGE: The big challenge was how I could doubt my design with the limitation that I had with materials for 3D printing!
In addition, Ergonomics factor in my design was really important and I tried to delivered those factors in my final design!
