INSPIRATION:
Oriental charms embraced by elegance, subtleness, serenity and tranquility are delivered by designers Yi Chen and Muchen Zhang; the figuration, aesthetic form and spiritual conception of oriental style are reinterpreted by these two designers and infused them into creation. They constructed an artful and self-fulfilled space design work, it all along bear oriental spiritual pursuit of “show high ideals by simple living; Non-quiet without causing much”, and also corresponds to Chinese traditional aesthetics of “Unification between human beings and Nature”. By using contemporary design language to accomplish Chinese traditional culture and annotate designers` unique but irreplaceable belief of “Zen”, each visional element, delicately arranged by the designers, are expressing its spirituality and poetics to satisfy our longing needs for beauty. This project is a exploration for symbolization, deconstructed and recombined Chinese traditional architectural bracket system (Dou Gong), to show a newer design pattern. Designers adopted creative modes from Chinese landscape painting theory, such as splashing, panorama, livable landscape. With abstract white lilac; visual elements are being boldly applied to the design, having lilac blooming in the towering central void providing a new visual image with aesthetic significance. The visual impacts together with oriental artistic features allow the natural elements in the space to be more harmonious and gentle which are different from the traditional oriental style.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
This is a sales center for a community real estate project, and also serves as a community center of leisure activities, which will be offered to community residents in the future upon completion of the community construction. Its initial function is to facilitate the sales of the real estate project, and in later stage it will function as a community place where greatdwelling-related services will be offered to the residents. The oriental artistic conception of elegant and implied, profound and lasting, and stoic and cheerful is the spiritual values that the club design wants to express. However, it is not the oriental style in a conventional sense. In fact, the greatest challenge we faced in our design is how we deeply integrate the formal aesthetic sense and spiritual sense and spiritual realm specific to oriental style through our own comprehension, so as to create a piece of space design work full of artistic intelligence and self-consciousness. In design we drew onthe essence of traditional artistic conception of oriental culture, and focused on developing and advocating the extraordinary oriental life idea as well as modern design spirit of human in harmony with dwelling. It not only shows its respect for traditional culture, but also represents an extension of traditional culture. We leveraged the modeling language of contemporary culture to extend the technique of adopting appearance by means of characteristics and laws in the design by seeking the context of Chinese traditional culture, and to interpret the designer’s unique and irreplaceable “Zen” sentiment. Each visual element releases its specific spirituality and poetic romance with the help of the designer’s thoughtful arrangement. We used symbolic signs to explore more novel design patterns in our design. We deconstructed and recombined "Dougong" (bucket arch), a structural element unique to traditional Chinese architecture. The wooden truss structure, a special structural style, forms a uniform modeling element and is skillfully spread in the space, constituting unique spatial pattern. We fully integrated artistic layout of oriental traditional landscape paintings into the integral spatial structure in our design. In the central position of the hall, we bravely used wooden truss structure to form a towering, breathtaking space of 5 meters, giving a rich oriental art atmosphere to the space in combination with waterscape set indoors. Around the central position, we set up various functional zones, including showroom, reception hall, sales hall, video demo room, coffee house, dollhouse, meeting room and multi-purpose offices, etc. Wooden structure is widely used, and the art atmosphere spreads to every corner, making people feel very friendly and comfortable. Additionally, the engineering budget of the design was perfectly controlled as required by the client, who in turn obtained good sales performance through this space. With this redesigned space put into service, we effectively helped the client with the sales, and guests who experienced it all spoke highlyof its environment, design and overall comfort. Many enthusiastic guests frequentthe place, reading books, drinking tea or coffee, eating desserts, and appreciatingits unique artistic atmosphere. The employees who work in the Club are all proud and happythat they have an opportunity to work in such a great environment to serve customers who love the club. Also, our client acknowledgedhonestly that they benefit from the design most, and gave their high praise and credit for our design and relatedservices; moreover, the positioning of overall design style we made for the space plays a great role in the future promotion of the project brand. A peaceful mind has the deepest thoughts, which is an important philosophical belief in traditional Chinese culture. Regardless of conception forming or technique of expression, we subtly integrate such spirit of oriental traditional culture into the space on purpose in our design. In a troubledand noisy world with rapid economic development, we hope that people can slow down their pace, keep an undisturbedmind, let loose thoughts, widen view of vision, lead a life in most natural way, while recognizing and being kind to our precious natural environment.

CHALLENGE:
The biggest challenge is to make modern-oriental interior coexist with American style architect. How to balance east and west, inside and outside is the most difficult part. Designers tried to resolve it by looking for similarities in scale, figure, material and color. Removing excessive moldings, they used Chinese wooden grilling in the ceiling to match with gabled roof outside. For material and color, natural wood used in interior design was perfectly matched with red bricks outside. To unify architect with interior is the biggest challenge for this project, and also the expression from the designers that how much they respect the originals.
