DESIGN NAME: SpaceTime Coordinates
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Pendant
INSPIRATION: 3D printed wearable solar system made with NASA's data and a personal date (birthdate, historical or individual achievement). This design project helps us relate to the solar system itself and find our place in the universe. We might all just be space dust in the big picture, but this project gives us a chance to grasp our own individual humanity and ephemeral time on earth. We all are part of the universe, so let's make it count!
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Each design is personalised by using a particular date. This 3D printed memento can be used as a necklace, bracelet or keychain. The chain will go though the center hole which is the representation of the Sun. One face displays the orbital paths from the commonly used north pole point of view, the other face only shows the celestial objects (Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune) from the south pole view.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Customer can use a personal date, choose to celebrate an historical event or their hero's birthdate. The Solar System will be 3D printed on this precise given date. It can be used as a necklace, bracelet or keychain. Different material are possible in either polished or raw: 18k Gold, 14k Gold Rose Gold, 14k Rose Gold White Gold, 14k White Gold, Platinum, Silver, 14k Gold Plated, 18k Gold Plated, 14k Rose Gold Plated, Rhodium Plated, Steel, Brass, Bronze, Aluminum, Alumide and Frosted Detail Plastic.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Project started in April 2015. A Kickstarter campaign is planned to launch in April 2016 and the production will start in the fall/winter 2016.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This 3D printed schematised design of the solar system use data from NASA's JPL. The four dimensions (x, y, z, t) are used to represent a particular location in time and space. x, y, z are set to the heliocentric north pole view used the most commonly in Astronomy. The orbital paths are engraved and their sizes as well as the distances between them are schematised in order to make all the orbits and objects visibles at this scale.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 2 sizes are available: 25mm and 30mm (in diameter).

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I recently got obsessed by the idea of seeing a specific date within the solar system. I spent weeks researching the solar system in order to make the most accurate model possible. I've always loved anything space related, and there is a zen quality I find in contemplating pictures of the universe, it helps me relax when I'm anxious, helps me put things in perspective.
CHALLENGE: Develop an Illustrator or Rhino script that generates the planets positions according to a given date and from the NASA JPL data. Try different materials for the 3D printed prototypes.
