DESIGN NAME: Be a Changi Millionaire Grand Draw
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Event design
INSPIRATION: The structure and the event planning was designed around Singapore’s cityscape and the quirks.
The games especially were inspired by the everyday Singaporean routines. Such as, the clothes drying on bamboo sticks; where the contestants were required to be fast, Car parking coupons; was a luck based game, The Mama shop (indian grocery store); was a price guessing game and the jig saw puzzle; forming the Singapore map.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Changi Airport Singapore host an annual event called 'Be a Changi Millionaire', where shoppers can enter a draw to win a million dollar. Visual Studio had the opportunity to design the grand draw event which happened to be during Singapore's jubilee celebration.
The theme selected was call 'SG50' which means celebration the nation's 50th birthday.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The event started by welcoming the 5 contestant on the Trishaw; a traditional manual transport in the earlier days in Singapore. The contestants has to go through a few rounds of game and eventually lead to 2 final contestants competing for the one million dollar price. It started off with the first round of game call 'Clothes Drying' where contestants have to hang the clothes in specific order onto the bamboo, A mimic of a daily lifestyle of a Singaporean. This round of game decides the sequence of player for the next round. The 2nd round of game is a game of luck. Contestant just have to choose any number on the giant carpark coupon structure on the left side of the stage. Whoever gets a star icon behind the number can proceed to the next round. Only 4 contestants will make it to the 3rd round of game. The 3rd round of game is grocery shopping at a 'Mama Shop', which is a traditional little shop mend by our Indian ethnic group.The game is about guessing the price and only 2 contestants get to final round. The final round is also a luck base game. The winner will be the one who can get the right fit of the missing jig saw puzzle to form a complete Singapore map. The winning moment sets the confetti, and money notes flying around to create the excitement.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in July 2014 and finished in February 2015

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The stage design is made up of various material like wood, acrylic, stickers and lightings to enhance the overall visual effect.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The theme for this event was SG50, in celebration of Singapore's 50th Independence day. Therefore, everything in the event was inspired keeping an average Singaporean in mind. Their habits, their general personalities, their quirks, etc. The city scape and multi ethnic backgrounds of the citizens also played a major role in the design of games and the event on the whole.
CHALLENGE: The research challenge was to blend the various aspects of element into one space, ensuring flows and consistency in the design.
