DESIGN NAME: PECKISH
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bird Food Packaging
INSPIRATION: The idea was to make the Peckish pack an actual bird box, where birds could live. The bird holes let you see the foodd and when it's all used up you can punch the hole through, making an entry just the right size for a specific variety of bird. The rustic country cottage style graphics give a realistic look to the concept and the screw top even looks like a chimney pot.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Westland Horticulture asked us to help recruit new bird feeders and bring interest and involvement to feeding birds in the garden, encouraging young people and children to get involved.
We designed a range of individual bird house designs for each seed variety so that when the products were merchandised they would look like a little street of bird houses.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: When the pack is empty and all the bird seed used up, you can punch through the feeder hole to create a bird house. The size of the hole and the type of seed is matched to a specific species of bird.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: -
CHALLENGE: A completely innovative packaging format where a standard Tetra Pak containing Peckish bird seed could be transformed into a useable bird box for the garden when empty. All the elements, including the backing card, are simple and low cost to realise, ensuring that the perceived value is much higher than the cost to produce.
