| DESIGN NAME: Boomerang PRIMARY FUNCTION: Chair INSPIRATION: The inspiration of this design is boomerang. Boomerang is a flying wooden toy, coming back when you throw, very easy to handle with its shape. In this design two boomerangs seem to be kept by a clear acrylic seating. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Boomerang is a design of a flying chair (seems to be flying). Seating and the back of the chair is clear acrylic, all in one piece. Arm of the chair with its boomerang form is also the leg of the chair. When you sit on the chair, it seems as if you just sit on air with a wooden boomerang. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Main responsibility is seating. On the other hand, relation between clear acrylic and wood is balanced. They help each other to be pure, simple and strong at the same time. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Line started in December 2014 in Istanbul and finished in February 2015 and it was exhibited in Alldesign, February 2015, in Istanbul. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Main seating part is made of 15mm clear acrylic, starts from back, ends in legs. The massive wooden hands which have boomerang shape carry the acrylic at the same time. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimensions: 51cm x 49cm x 83cm (h) TAGS: Seating, Chair, Wood, Acrylic, Fly, Furniture, Feza, Elipstasarim RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Boomerang is one of the designs in Fly Collection, designed by Feza Koca,2015. Every piece in the collection has its own inspiration. Boomerang is a flying toy, acrylic seating helps boomerang shaped hands to seem flying as a chair too. Main concept of the collection is freedom. Flying is freedom. Boomerang is pure,simple and different. CHALLENGE: Boomerang is a chair, it should be durable to carry the user. But at the same time relation between acrylic and wood would be pure and simple. They didn't want any third fixing material like screw. That was the hardest part. The massive wooden parts were really strong to groove. By that way acrylic fixed in those deep grooves with a special strong glue and left to dry by strong fixers.
