| DESIGN NAME: Twitter Mirror PRIMARY FUNCTION: Social networking selfie booth INSPIRATION: As Twitter’s first ever physical product, our goal was to embody the essence of the brand and convey their simple and friendly qualities. As Twitter’s sense of humor referring short messages as “Tweets” and having a “Bird” as a company’s logo is so powerful, we used the birdhouse as an inspiration. In order to reflect their playfulness, we designed a 2D birdhouse frame constructed of wood that gives a fun 3D effect. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Twitter Mirror is a social networking selfie booth for celebrities to take photos at specialty events. It holds a tablet at an optimal camera height and uses the Twitter Mirror App to take the photo which is instantly shared online. The Twitter bird being an iconic brand identity, a birdhouse with a 3D visual illusion was designed. A stylus that appears as a bird perch is to add a personal signature on the photo. Twitter Mirror has integrated LED lighting and can be flat packed for shipment. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Twitter Mirror uses Twitter Mirror App to take the photos. Simple user interface of the app allows the celebrities to take selfies instantly and share it with their fans online. The design features integrated LED lighting to produce the best image quality in any types of spaces, indoor and outdoor. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in May 2014 and the first production was distributed in February 2015. Twitter Mirror has been distributed to major global events such as the Oscar’s, Grammy’s, Westminster Dog Show, USA Olympic Committee event and international trade shows. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Twitter Mirror is an easy assembly flat pack consisting of three main parts to be easily transportable. The top housing, stand and tri-base are all flat packed to fit in a package with small footprint. Easy assembly and small packaging makes it efficient to be shipped around. The materials consist of painted wood, chrome polished metal and LED light panels. Since Twitter Mirror is made of durable materials it has a life cycle that is long lasting like a piece of furniture. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width: 22.7 in, Depth: 19.7 in, Height: 67.5 in, Weight: 35 lbs TAGS: Social networking, Selfie, Photo booth, Twitter, Social media, Bird house, Illusion, Twitter Mirror RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The development process started with brainstorming, sketching and camera tests. As a digital service company, it was essential that we translated the feel and mood of Twitter into the product. The Bird house design was the solution that captures the brand essence of Twitter, while maintaining the key functionalities of the Twitter Mirror. To achieve this we researched unique shapes, forms and metaphors using different materials. CHALLENGE: First challenge was to make the product sturdy so the stand is always stable when users are pressing against the tablet. The second was to find the optimum camera height to accommodate anyone short or tall and group photos. As a result, we designed a flat pack bird house that assembles with a strong connection between each part. After testing the different heights of people in front of the camera we found out that 60” from the ground was the optimum position for the tablet to be placed.
