DESIGN NAME: Offshore House - A Moving Space
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential
INSPIRATION: Migration has been a part of human history since ancient times, and it is also a current activity. The users of this project usually live overseas (travelling among different countries)Design planners have to apply a linear movement method based on the characteristics of the space to allow planar elements to produce many possibilities through displacement.
Doesn’t it mean that humans can escape their lifestyle in the fixed space?
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The point, line and plane idea is being well used and presented in this room; moving lines, and opening and closing plane.
In order to minimize the difficulty, we lower the saturation and brightness to integrate the entire place.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: In Asia, the limited land is heavily populated. As inhabitable areas are limited, multi-dimensional applications shall be employed along with the incorporation of different functions and spatial changes to provide environments suitable for various lifestyles. The definitions of size and boundary between privacy and public use are thus blurred.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in May 2013 and completed in December 2013, and place in Kaohsiun, Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Recycling and reuse of old wood materials: Although time leaves markings on the surface of old wood materials, their natural stability frees users from worries regarding material degradation in the house that has not been inhabited for a long period of time. In addition, it also addresses environmental issues.
Special cement (application of Gaia soil): Silt sediment at the bottom of a reservoir can be transformed into usable material through special processing. This material is able to adjust humidity in the atmosphere, giving the waste material a new life.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Site area : 148 sq.m

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The users of this project usually live overseas (travelling among different countries); hence the target audience for space usage can sometimes be a whole family or 1 or 2 members of the family.
As a result, the age group, usage mode, function and number of users can differ. The space shall be changed accordingly to meet the needs of its current user, and multi-dimensionality of space is of paramount importance.
Closing revolving doors blurs the usage boundary, while breaking the conventional architecture pattern.
Different user will have different usage modes of space.
CHALLENGE: As the user travels overseas for long periods of time and the house is often unoccupied, besides the flexibility in space use, the selected materials must also cater to the warm and humid local weather. As a result, materials like pandomo, GAIA soil, recycled wood and iron were used alternately.
