DESIGN NAME: Abisso
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bathroom furniture collection
INSPIRATION: A chasm to the unknown, where everything keeps quiet in the deep blue, at the beginning of life. A breathtaking trip, an inner encounter. A suspension between reality and unconscious. A fall into the nothingness, searching immense silences and eternal instants, a lost aloneness, your own abyss.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This series expresses the materials essence and quality especially thanks to the experience and sensibility of different artisans. The hand basin body is made using stainless steel, the interior convex molded unit is in Cristalplant and the wooden top is totally customisable for dimensions and essences. Different mirror and accessory sizes can satisfy any demand and space limits. All the industrial components are hidden, ensuring a general cleanliness and pleasant aesthetic. The series also offers the possibility of having a blue diffuse light under the washbasins and behind the mirror for a unique bathroom experience.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Every furniture piece is easy to use and clean thanks to the essential shapes and limited number of components such as screws. Everything is removable and replaceable. The two wash basins are totally inspectable in case of some malfunctioning or component damage. The internal Cristalplant basins are extractable with a provided suction cup. Wood surfaces have a particular treatment to guarantee the duration and quality over the years.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2014 in Marostica (Vi) and finished in March 2015 in the same place, and was exhibit at Fuorisalone in Milan the month after.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research mainly focused on raw materials and production methods, always considering the user experience, cleaning operations and sustainability. The two washbasins required the longest development period in order to find the best precision keeping only one vertical welding on the back of the sink body plus the internal four weld joint for the basin supports. We use a pressure mould to create the iconic inclined higher edge. Other requisite was to hide all the industrial components into the wash basins body without modifying proportions and general design. The internal Cristalplant basin is convex and the internal metal bottom is concave to allow the water flow going down easily.
CHALLENGE: The hardest part was to reach the highest product precision and quality, keeping the production process sustainable and easy to modify or implement.
