| DESIGN NAME: Condemn cuff PRIMARY FUNCTION: Extendable cuff INSPIRATION: It is inspired by structure of a car suspension and a train stopper. This idea is used to make the main body of the cuff. It has 2 compression springs in both sides. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The main goal with this project was to make a cuff that does not have size limitation. The biggest challenge was choosing a clasp. A clasp was integral but it limited size. Therefore, I aimed to design a clasp and a cuff as one object. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This cuff is designed to fit various size of wrist with an extension system. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started and finished in January 2015 in Philadelphia. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: 18k yellow gold plated brass, Compression springs SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 70mm x 20mm x 68mm TAGS: cuff, bracelet, extendable, jewelry, modern, futuristic, architectural RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I researched and utilized technologies in order to materialize all the shapes that were always just in my imagination. CHALLENGE: The cuff has two compression springs inside two bracket parts. Therefore, when you try to wear this cuff, two wrist holders on both sides open and it fits automatically your wrist size. NAME: J.M.J PROFILE: His design practice is informed by modernism and minimalism and driven by material exploration. He utilizes both traditional and contemporary designing and making skills to bring form to his artistic vision. Instead of making works from found objects, every element of his jewelry has been designed and engineered from blank blueprints. All of his jewelry is comprised of multiple geometric elements and married into abstract modules that repeat in order to create an elaborate form. The design process then pushes the limitations and error range of the technology he is using to achieve a dynamic form composed of simple elements. |
