DESIGN NAME: Creachair
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Playing and Learning Chair
INSPIRATION: Creative expression and tactile stimulation are very important for cognitive and physical development of a child. We were led by the idea to create a product that encourages children do express emotions, practice visual communication and participate with the design process from an early age. Creachairs are an open call for a playful collaboration and exchanging ideas between kids.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Creachair is a design concept for a children’s chair, which will also be their play buddy and help them develop creativity, imagination, motor and tactile skills. Every chair is assembled out of a seat, legs, eyes, teeth and leg covers, all of them in various shapes, colours and materials. Kids of early age can make new and different characters on their own in endless combinations. They will experience many different tactile sensations using velcro, zippers, buttons, clip buttons, laces.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Kids of early age can make new and different characters on their own in endless combinations. Kids can play alone or can create together with their parents. With a wide variety of material options you can get fuzzy, furry, scary, silly or all of the above.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This project is currently a design concept with functional prototypes. In serial production the materials used should be lightweight, reliable and non-toxic. The base (seat and legs) should be made of moulded plastic, teeth should be made of silicone rubber, eyes from felt and velcro, and leg covers should be made from a great variety of textile materials and stuffing, together with many different kinds of fasteners.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimensions are: Width 300mm, Depth 300mm, Height 300mm. It is planed that the legs can be detached from the seat, for easier packaging. This should be able do be done easily but also provide a reliable connection from the aspect of safety. This detail will be resolved in the next phase of the project with the serial production.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The main aspect of our research was allowing kids to play with prototypes and carefully noticing their reaction and ways they interact. It helped us define the design of all the parts of the product. We realized that it was of great importance that the parts are constructed in such way that there is no wrong way of applying them. The eyes, teeth and leg covers can be attached and changed easily to allow the creative process flowing. They feel excited and content as they create new characters.
