Although wireless chargers are often unimaginative, flat and therefore unsuitable for comfortable smartphone or tablet use. We intended to give to the wireless charger more elegant structural form; favouring a sculptural shape topped with a slanted surface coated in micro-suction cups to keep your device in place while charging: like riding a wave. We decided to use recyclable materials as ceramics and wood instead of plastics to fill the market niche of higher price range wireless chargers.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
SWICH is crafted from wood and ceramics and two layers of micro suction surface for a stabile grip. Functionality has met usability and good looks in the most advanced and improved wireless charger design.
The firm hold is enabling users to work well with the phone during charging, while the 45 degrees angle is offering a comfortable view on the screen.
The upper pad allows to shift in both directions for 90 degrees changing the phone screen layout from vertical to horizontal.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Swich transmits power to smartphones by following the Qi wireless standard technology.
Gain power to the mobile phone simply by resting it on the stand. The product works with all Qi standard integrated devices; Android, iOs or Windows. In case your mobile phone does not support the wireless standard, it can adapt by connecting a correct type Qi wireless receiver. The wireless charging ability can be integrated in any smartphone brand or type.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
First design solutions were made in December 2013. The project actually started in March 2014 and was presented on www.kickstarter.com platform in July 2014. The production started in November 2014 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Online sales started in March 2015.

Swich is in fine handcrafted ceramics and wood and together form a single authentic form, making every SWICH a unique piece of design. These natural and recyclable materials reflect our respect for nature. To these natural materials we added two layers of Microsuction high-tech material to assure a firm grip to all flat and smooth surfaces. Combination of natural materials and technological parts requires particular design efforts to assemble all components in the right way.

The product size is 136 x 74 x 134 mm. The package size is 200 x 180 x 100 mm. The product weight is 360g. The package include power adopter with micro USB connector: 5V, 2A. Wireless charging standard is Qi. The energy is transmitted without cables. Swich has certifications CE, FCC and RoHS. The packaging is designed to present the product in the best way and protect it during the transport.

Our studio was looking for a product with fine materials, sophisticated design and technological features. Within the research we recognized that the most trendy technology, wireless charging, has no products in the premium market position. Most of wireless chargers are in cheap plastic materials, have anonymous shape, allowing to charge devices only in horizontal position. From the ergonomic analysis we also that the 45 degrees angle is fundamental for the comfortable view of the screen.
We were looking for an innovative product with particular characteristics. We believed in the innovation that comes out not only from technology but particularly from the combination of social trends, people's habits, material research and aesthetics. The hardest part was to combine wood and ceramic and put them into one producible shape, which can provide quality, price and performance in the production. The certification was a challenge from the organisational and financial point of view.
