| DESIGN NAME: Improbable Journey PRIMARY FUNCTION: Womenswear Collection INSPIRATION: “Improbable Journey” is a collection, which expressed the journey that I experienced in New York City half year ago. The uptown and downtown architectures and the urban artworks along the subway stations such urban concepts have been transferred to the design elements with hand-interlacing technique and felting technique to archive the philosophy of Multi-cultural Manhattan. Beside of that, the cutting of the outfits are inspired by the soulful subway station at 14st. By applying the elements of the subway station to express a soulful feeling which I have first felt on that midnight. Also, the outfit style also aimed to expressed 80s fashion with sportswear inspired style mixed with elegant style which influenced by New Yorkers style which I met in New York. Bomber jacket and denim jacket are the iconic style from New York Hipsters. The combination brings a concept of the difference between Uptown and downtown cultures. The colors of the collection reflected the mood of New York City which inspired by a rail-road garden named” Highline” at Chelsea area. Sunlight, apartments , sea and evergreen garden can be found together in Manhattan. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Collection is about expressing the diversity of a metropolitan by handmade textiles (hand-felted wool and hand interlacing technique)and innovative silhouette. Transforming different shapes of the architectures in the city into the outfit's silhouette is the main design direction to show the abstract idea of the fusion of the architecture and multi-culture of a metropolitan. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The collection includes 29 items. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2013 in New York City and finished in May 2014 in Hong Kong, China. This is a project which developed in Fashion Institute of Technology New York and a graduate project of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Hand felting and interlacing technique are another difficult parts as it need time to create by hand. NAME: Improbable House PROFILE: Suet Yi Ko (Shirley Ko) the Founder of Improbable House, graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2014 and Studied at Fashion Institute Of Technology in New York City in 2013, before she pursued womenswear design education in New York City,she won different asian design awards with her collections. In 2011, she received Asian wedding and evening wear designer award in Asia. After educated in FIT New York ,she obtained several awards with her graduate collection and sponsored by World Class American Fashion and Apparel Group. Suet Yi founded Improbable House in Hong Kong in 2014. Suet Yi translates architectural aesthetics and contemporary art into versatile collections, which feature powerful silhouettes at one time. The use of details persists in craftsmanship and solid silhouettes with delicate inspiration from the diversity of cultures around the World.
