DESIGN NAME: Bioxide Tile
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Roof Tile
INSPIRATION: Bioxide Tile includes Hematite, which is an iron mineral, twice as much as normal tiles. In normal tiles, there minerals which are unwanted in tile production such as calcite besides kliklor, albite, kaolinite, illite and quartz. Calcite is the phase that causes mistakes known as lime burst in mineral tile and reduces the life time of the tile. There is no free calcite mineral in Bioxide Tile. For this reason its life time is more than traditional tiles.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Bioxide Tile has unique technical features such as: high frost resistance, better water isolation, better noise isolation, better heat isolation. Increased Hematite mineral leads to a darker color and more beautiful look. As a result, Bioxide Tile, comparing to tiles produced with traditional raw materials, is more resistant to natural conditions, lasts longer and is more aesthetical.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Durability is the key of this product
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Milano august 2014 and finished in Corum (Turkey) in January 2015
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Building Materials and Construction Components Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Bioxide Tile is produced in higher temperatures of sintering compared to tiles prepared by traditional raw materials. So it has better physical features when compared with tiles produced of traditional raw materials such as less water absorption, three point pressure resistances, higher pressure resistance, higher thermal shock resistance and higher surface stiffness.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 230 mm x Depth 50 mm x Height 410 mm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This product was born under a close cooperation between the designer and the company. This was possible thanks to the long term relationship between this two entities. Due to the mineralogical and physical features of the raw materials used in production of Bioxide Tile, water impermeability is better, porosity is less, and frost resistance is high and it is not mossed.
CHALLENGE: The research challenge was to design a better roof tile from a functional and aesthetical point of view
