DESIGN NAME: The Bride
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sustainable fashion
INSPIRATION: Seeing the impoverished folks who make a living collecting dumped plastic bags and use the same to cover their mud houses and construct clothing,showed that sustainability is not only using natural fiber but also recycling dumped materials occupying landfill space.This inspired me to work towards chic sustainable fashion merged with traditional craft.The silhouette is for a bold bride,conscientious about wastefulness in modern living and wishes to be clothed that reflect her style and sentiments about sustainability.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The garment is made of recycled plastic bottles.The bridal ensemble can be transformed into five separates. The colorful hand woven collar is made of waste cotton threads that goes into joining warp and weft threads on hand loom.This recycled clothing utilizes thirty percent less energy than polyester and cuts down toxin levels as it does not require washing.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This is a bridal ensemble which can be transformed into five separate pieces of clothing. It is made of recycled plastic so it is would sustain for a long time as it is more durable.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The Project started on 20th February,2015 and finished on 01st March,2015 in India.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The recycled plastic has been hand-cut to make textures.The garment has been cut and sewn with high standard finishing. The collar has been hand woven.The design incorporates sixteen panelled skirt with a bustier and cropped jacket.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The garment is made to fit size UK 8 (Italy 40). There is no washing or ironing required. The garment can simply be cleaned with wet cloth.

CHALLENGE: The challenging part was to use the recycled plastic in such a way that it was very wearable . The cutting and pasting also needed precision.
