DESIGN NAME: Akuma
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Video
INSPIRATION: Inspiration for this have been the wonderful drawings of artist and good friend Sven Ballenthin from Berlin / one of them is used in the end of the video as well. After a long inspirational dinner with him the whole idea for the project and video started to grow - a story about a demon coming to earth, hunting human beings to transform them into drawings. It is not a usual fashion film simply promoting the S/S'15-collection of Designer Nina Athanasiou, it is a strong and sometimes weird tale about our longings and needs and the urge to get something and make it our own.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The whole story lives from the extraordinary play of Albino-Topmodel Shaun Ross who transformed his charakter to the most impressiv version of itself. The setting took place in phenomenally locations of Tokyo like a real Patchinko-Hall or the subway, taking the viewer on a impressive ride through the colourfull scenery of the dark side of Japan.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: First goal was to find all the perfect locations that would reflect the pressing mood of the metropolis Tokyo which was needed for the story. It started with a lot of research on the internet, endless searchings in forums and longtime chats with people who had lived there and knew about habits, laws and conventions. Afterwards the storyboard got formed by fitting in all the locations and settings into the storyline, followed by choosing the cast with the perfect models. Next step was finding a way to make everything work from the technical side - which equipment would be needed, what was the best way to get it to Tokyo, how to deal with editing and effects. After that the process of getting permissions and crew on set started. The last thing was to decide which look for the models would made the best impession and to work out a theme for the hair-and make up team.
CHALLENGE: We had to deal with many challenges during this shoot, mostly because of the fact that we were shooting in Tokyo. First of all the language barrier, since not that many people in Japan speak english - this made everything a little harder, started from finding a hair-and make up-team over explaining a cab-driver what we wanted him to do for the scene up to getting permissions to shoot. Especially finding a Patchinko-Hall to shoot in was more than just difficult because of the Jacuza. But also to find a capsule-hotel that gave us permission was a huge deal.
