DESIGN NAME: The Green Root Sustainable Living Campus
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Neighbourhood Sustainable Living Campus
INSPIRATION: Putrescibles takes almost 50% of the Municipal Solid Waste in Hong Kong. This is an alarming figure that suggests the urgency to cutting food waste. This project is inspired by the increasingly popular ideas of organic farming and vegetarian culture that gives the hint to solve the food waste problem through community participation to become of our daily lives. Another inspiration is based on a research that there are abandoned road bridges scattered around Hong Kong. These readily use structures largely reduce the project’s carbon footprint by construction.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project demonstrates the possibility to implant green minds to the community by making use of abandoned road bridges within the city to become sustainable living campus. These huge lands provide excellent location and area for community organic farm that supports the Vegetarian Cooking Centre, Sustainable Living Market and a Sustainable Living Centre. They support one another to generate a self-sustainable ecosystem to distribute green living concepts, skills and attitudes to the public.
