DESIGN NAME: Anabela Chan Joaillerie - Ham Yard Hotel
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Jewelry Boutique
INSPIRATION: Inspired by the client’s object d’art sculptures, we have created bespoke bell jars and display units that frame the jewelry pieces. The organic and fluid stands are inspired by the anatomy of flowers, an important element in the designer’s work; whilst the glass domes mimic crystal clear water droplets of the morning dew. The central display piece - Jewel Chandelier, is designed to house an ever-changing display of the designer’s one of a kind pieces, much like a gallery of treasures.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Dreams Through The Looking Glass.
Designed to be as much like a gallery as a shop, it is our aim to create a space that is welcoming yet intimate, with a air of luxury, modernity and otherness that is true to the brand. The idea of framing is inherent in the design much like the client’s work, as the very act of looking through a window, lends itself to the creation of something or somewhere extraordinary on the other side of the glass.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Space making - The shop layout is designed to direct visitors to follow a circular route; similar to a gallery space, it aims to tell a story about the brand and its inspirations.
At the rear of the boutique, a bespoke curiosity cabinet displays a series of curious objects and treasures collected by the shop owner over the years.
Flexibility - All of the free-standing mobile display units (including the Jewel Chandelier) are designed for easy reconfiguration and reassemble both inside and outside the boutique, to allow for maximum flexibility, freshness and reinvention of space.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Concept design started in June 2014
Mock up were tested in August 2014
Off-site prefabrication started in September
On-site installation began end of October
The boutique was completed 1st week of November 2014

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Jewel Chandeiler – Each bell jar was blown by a London based glass artisan specifically to the size of the brand’s object d’art pieces. The organic shaped stems were cnc in a warehouse in London before applying VeroMetal spray with sanded finish in Oxford. The stems were then screwed into a circular timber base to form a unique sculptural piece.
Counter table – Supported by 20mmx20mm steel section frame with Verometal spray finish, the counter’s structure is cladded with tempered glass sheets (flat and curved pieces) with LED light strip inset to the undersides of the structural frame. Statuario marble trays provide the backdrop for the Client’s Fine Jewellery collection display.
10 x Glass display cabinet – Each glass cabinet is also supported by a VeroMetal spray finished 20mmx20mm steel section frame. 4 tempered glass panels were bonded together to form a frameless rectilinear transparent enclosure leaving one panel fixed to the base of the marble inset display drawer for easy access to its content. LED light strip are neatly inserted to the inner display metallic frame which is powered by a battery pack discreetly installed behind the lower compartment.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The site's 5m x 5m foot print came with pre-installed timber floor board and metal soffit panels with few spotlights.

The retail projects involves newly installed bespoke jewellery display units, timber shelving unit, marble architrave and timber wall panels with customised beadings.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Most of the design research went into mobile display furniture engineering as one of the key objectives of the design is to achieve a flexible set up which can be re-assembled not limited to its site.
CHALLENGE: The challenge remains as making the limited internal space to feel luxurious and airy while provide adequate and organised display and storage area to house the client's 3 distinctive jewelery collections.
