DESIGN NAME: Teca
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lamp
INSPIRATION: The main elements of this lamp are indeed the experience in turning and the fine research of the light through the wood. Each wood has its own story, its own reaction to the lathe and to the time, and only a thorough study of this story made this project possible.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Teca is a wooden ceiling light made by blown glass, hand turned wood and metal. Each wooden lampshade is made by turning using various woods, enclosed in a bubble of blow transparent glass that levels the appearance. Elegant and exclusive for the high quality of the components, each piece is a unique and unrepeatable object.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The real beauty of the piece is the contrast between the raw wood and polished glass, which give value to each other and merge completely.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in december 2013 with the idea of Lorenzo Franceschinis that showed us the wooden part. Then we involved Shiina + Nardi Design in order to design a lamp based on the wooden part. The final product has been realized in April 2014 and has been presented in Salone del Mobile 2014.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The wooden and the glass part of the lamp are totally handcrafted by the artisans of our network. The work has been made after 4 years of experience in wood turning: the aim of the project was to find the perfect wood to make the light pass through the wood. After this research we found out that the best wood for Teca is cherry tree.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimensions: cm Ø40 h.130 max

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: -
CHALLENGE: The process of woodturning, which requires "a few hours and over 4 years of experience", is very delicate and need great accuracy not only in the moment of processing, but also in the next moments: once you get the desired shape each piece reacts differently during the drying phase, deforming and cracking in the worst cases.
