DESIGN NAME: Garuda Collection

INSPIRATION: This collection is inspired by Indonesian national symbol, Garuda.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Garuda is a large mythical bird with eagle-like features that appears in both Hinduism and Buddhism mythology. In Indonesia, this ancient deity was described as a mighty creature with golden body and became a symbol of the greatness of the nation. Inspired by this great legend, MAESTA creates a gold ring with 8 feathers on the wing, 17 black stones on the head and another 45 on the wing, which represent the date Indonesia proclaimed its independence: 17 August 45. The day when this mythical bird became the real symbol of Indonesia.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Garuda ring is a combination of double ring and an open ring. Traditional concept meets newest fashion trend.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in the beginning of 2015 in Indonesia and finalized in Italy in the end of February.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Garuda Collection is a project dedicated to promote an ancient culture and represent it in modern language. Design is one of million ways to achieve public interest of this forgotten theme. Traditional doesn't mean old, we should protect these heritages and tell their stories to future children.
CHALLENGE: The challenge of making this design is to meet a balance point between the masculinity of Garuda creature and the elegance of women's jewelry. We try to find compromise by combining light curves and strong element like black color in one single design.
