| DESIGN NAME: Librans PRIMARY FUNCTION: Trestles INSPIRATION: The final design of the object, slender in shape, shows itself once the assembly is done: the association of the "C" and "L" questions the user by its apparent instability according to viewpoints, where from the name chosen for the object with a Latin origin ' Librans ', meaning ' putting in balance ', although the set is perfectly stable and free-standing. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Slender object, the pair of trestles Librans by Osmose le bois emphasizes a table top thanks to its graphic legs. Because functionality was a priority, it allows to comfortably have a seat at an extra or occasional desk or table thanks to its small size. The 3 wooden parts of each leg are easy to interlock and gather flat for convenient storage, with possibility to hang them up on a coat hook or a rod of cupboard for example. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: As Librans are a flat-pack, ready-to-assemble trestles, the final user interacts immediately with the object : once hand-built, he can stage them as he wish for setting up a table or a work surface anywhere thanks to any flat surface across the two: solid wood top, sheet of plywood, door... PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Juin 2014 in our workshop, Paris region, and finished in October. It was exhibited in a parisian pop up store last December. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The parts of the 2 trestles, in laminated birch plywood, interlock, without screw or glue thanks to 3 elements each: a C, a L and the magnetic key. The set is easy to gather flat for a convenient storage with possibility to hang it up, on a rod of cupboard for example. The set C and L requiring to be hold together, the insertion of the key with neodymium magnet locks it and ensures a stable and free-standing set. Use of CNC equipment allows an optimized, reproducible and fast manufacturing. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 59 mm x Height 72 mm Laminated plywood (birch), magnet Flatpack TAGS: Trestles, wooden trestles, desk base, table trestles, table legs, flatpack, interlocking, RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Specifications: graphic legs, functional while being minimalist, ergonomic seat at the table thanks to its small size, (dis)assembly without screw or glue, collapsible to obtain a flat volume once stored, packaging and shipping optimized (flat). Solutions: this trestles concept with a 3 parts structure (a C, a L and the key) offers an original and graphic aesthetism. They interlock perfectly, answering in this way to the flat pack and the storage issue. CHALLENGE: The hardest part of this design activity was to find a solution to ensures a stable and free-standing set. NAME: Osmose le bois PROFILE: French young publishing house for wooden furniture and accessories, Osmose le bois develops in its workshop an offer of contemporary, design and functional craft objects of decoration and furniture, as well as a custom-made digital machining service. Osmose le bois comes within the scope of a craft design approach and designs then crafts pieces, unique or in small series, with wood as a common dominator. Taken advantage of this ‘integrated’ model, Osmose le bois imagines, develops and manufactures in the Workshop its range of objects, mainly opting for the solid wood, natural and renewable material, with local wood as bias. Associating advanced machining techniques and traditional know-how, Osmose le bois custom designs , thanks to his computer controlled cutting and milling machine (CNC router), the specific projects, unique or in small series : cutting, engraving, drilling and joining of wood, soft metal, composite and synthetic materials… Osmose le bois gives birth to creators projects and furniture and decoration professionals projects as well as individual project holders : rapid prototyping, small series, sheets of plywood machining, unique pieces... |
