DESIGN NAME: DESKA Board - The City Cruiser
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Cruiser Board
INSPIRATION: As my dream board was not available on the market, I decided to build it myself. I made Deska for those who love extreme sports just like me. Deska Board blends the experience of skateboarding, longboarding, snowboarding and windsurfing into a single piece of equipment, with the addition a breaking function. It is far from being an ordinary skateboard or a longboard - it is an experience you have never had before. It's Deska. Enjoy The Ride!
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: 1, Disk Brake System (DBS): A powerful system designed to allow the rider to stop quickly under a variety of circumstances
2, The Strap System: As an optimal feature, the Strap System makes jumps easier and more safe, and can complement the emergency braking process.
3, Windsurf Sail Connectivity (WSC): A custom sail can be attached to the board, turning it into a fully functional windskate.
4, Convex Carbon Shape (CCS): Lightweight (1603 grams), hand-made, custom deck.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: DESKA is a three-wheeled board with wheels that are 200mm in diameter, letting it ride smoothly through treacherous cracks and cobblestones in the city. With the unique disk-brake system, the rider can stop safely and effectively in all conditions. The board has a bent shape, which allows for a low center of gravity and a more stable ride. Also, the strap system helps the rider to jump and perform high-speed turns. To give you even more thrills, the board can be equipped with a windsurfing sail.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was born in May 2010, Austria and finished in February 2015, Hungary.
It won the People's choice price at HP's (Hewlett Packard) pre-crowdfunding contest in 2014, and it was exhibited in HP's Z POP studio in London, and "The Day of Sustainability" in Budapest, 2014. It was successfully funded at indiegogo.com in November 2014.
DESKA was featured on the official Hungarian "Cool list" in 2014, and BBC’s Top Gear magazine, in the style section.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: All parts are hand-made to meet the highest industry standards.
Body parts: Made of vacuum suctioned Carbon fiber, Glass fiber, Kevlar composites. The exact layer-plan is based on the prototypes and material tests, and is kept in secret.
Metal elements: CNC milled lightweight aluminum, and stainless steel with copper sleeves.
The graphics on the bottom of the board are made with Marbling Technology, and are protected by a wear-resistant layer.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimensions of the board (with wheels): (W) 306,2 mm x (D) 1082,8 mm x (H) 200mm
Dimensions without wheels: (W) 1012,6 mm x (D) 240 mm x (H) 71,2 mm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: After spending 15 years on various boards (windsurf, snowboard, longboard) I realised that there is not a single board on the market that has safe brake system and a possibility to attach a windsurf sail. As an ID designer, I decided to build one. The first model was built in 2010, but the experience I was aiming for came only with the 6th version in 2012. After this, there was no way back. In 2014, I built the 10th version with very good results. Now I would like to put the final version (12th) on the market.
CHALLENGE: The hardest part was that to build the different versions in real. I mean working prototypes, with lightweight composites. At the point where imagination and real materials meets, well it's always tricky. The other difficulty was finding the perfect team to work with. The low budget represented a serious challenge at the beginning: before the success of the crowdfunding campaign I had to sell a lot of my belongings to finish the project. In spite of all the challenges, the unforgettable feeling of actually riding on your own design makes it clear that it was worth every effort.
