DESIGN NAME: Life is Flower
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Porcelain Artwork
INSPIRATION: Breath of "Life". The designer has expressed the immutable beauty of mysterious and strong formative arts with countless flowers and a skull by using art and wisdom of porcelain which Lladro has developed for ages. The designer has also made a wish to spread happy days to people of the world by overlapping happy future with full of bright hopes and beautiful dreams to the flowers.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Life is Flower is an artistic exercise conceived by the Japanese designer Yasumichi Morita for Lladró. It displays its mysterious and everlasting beauty thanks to the sophisticated techniques and skills of a Lladró creation with an amazing variety of porcelain flowers. This gorgeous blossoming speaks of a “future” of beautiful dreams and shining hopes, and spreads its message of “happiness of life” to people all around the world. With over 500 flowers in different tones of blue and handmade petal by petal by artists at Lladró, Life is Flower is a limited edition of 100 pieces in this decoration.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Craftworkers picked up 10 colors based on the presentation documents; two of them were newly invented for this project and model craftworkers worked on an original skull model in parallel with color selection and development while we checked and brushed up each process and details. This communication took over a half year.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in June 2013 in Tokyo and finished in June 2014 in Valencia, Spain, and was exhibited in LLADRO EXHIBITION AT TOKYO AMERICAN CLUB, Tokyo, Japan in June 2014.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: One craftworker makes approx. 600 flowers in three days. The size variation for the artwork is over 40. The modeled work shall be kilned at 1400 degree Celsius for 24 hours. One artwork needs 7 days and 15 craftworkers for its completion.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We researched the brand’s history and the art of porcelain and we designed it with knowledge of the history and art.
CHALLENGE: Sticking numerous flowers on the round surface beautifully without adhesive was the biggest challenge and their craftsmanship has made it possible.
