PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential Loft
INSPIRATION: It sharply leap like rotary sets on the stage in living room and the study. In the height space, the designer seek for his early imprint, presenting classic and bright space atmosphere of the church. In the second floor, there is a feeling towards old Hong Kong, the remembrance of floral times!
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Within the LOFT space with the design area of about 110 sq.m., with the confluence of Chinese and Western elements, the designer uses stage design techniques to create and cleverly blend different scenarios, with interleaving of sunlight and shade, rich and warm color, building a leisure, quiet and comfortable home atmosphere.
Distinctive black and white tones of the porch complement each other perfectly, unveiling the mystery of the small room under the half-drawn red curtain. The designer divides the small space into areas for living room and study using a simple two-meter-wide partition. Thus someone teases "Although the space is small, there are things around.” It’s strong and rich on one side, and fresh and elegant on the other side. There is a strong visual contrast and impact separating by a wall, sharply leaping like rotary sets on the stage.
Combined with the arc architectural pattern, the designer uses S-shaped interlayer trim to create a unique floor height space. That not only present classic and bright space atmosphere of the church, but also present the outdoor scenery in the room, a courtyard combining Chinese style with Western style.
Passing through the white door on the second floor, like the change of stage sets, immediately enter the bedroom space, into the style of “floral times”. This is a feeling towards old Hong Kong, the remembrance of floral times.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The designer adopted high criteria for every single detail. To the best result, there was close monitoring of the construction site real-time to make sure the project was on the right track. With respect to the choice of features and materials for the design and furnishings, the designer took into account of being sustainable and environmentally-friendly.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was initiated in October 2013 and completed in September 2014 in Shanghai, China. Designer design this space for himself, so he modified his concept again and again until he had satisfied it. But the whole schedule for concept brewing, layout planning to artifacts display, the designer’s passion for design and touching the heart of the builder in the residential enabled the successful conclusion of the project.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Uses stage design techniques to create and cleverly blend different scenarios, with interleaving of sunlight and shade, rich and warm color.
The designer divides the small space into areas for living room and study using a simple two-meter-wide partition. The tiny space of the living room is further extended to the maximum degree by the mirror.
Combined with the arc architectural pattern, the designer uses S-shaped interlayer trim to create a unique floor height space.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The loft is located in the MCC/Shinetone City Plaza, the commercial center which is known as “Nanxiang International Community" and “First CBD Nanxiang Smart Land in Shanghai Suburbs”. With an area space of 110 sq.m., the residential has a 2-level void structure, which covers living room, study room, a courtyard, the bedroom, etc.

CHALLENGE: With previous experiences in stage design for opera performances, the designer treated this project as an extension of stage design into an home design, and hence building on which to form an residential space. Expression of the theme of the space should also complement with interpretation of more possibilities of the furnitures.
