| DESIGN NAME: Tidal Wave PRIMARY FUNCTION: Statement Ring INSPIRATION: The energy and magical beauty of ocean waves breathe inspiration into this design. Primarily, my encounter with the glorious Pacific Ocean awed and inspired me to construct the design of this single piece of jewelry. Although the waves symbolize power and great force, it can bring a sense of tranquility, generosity and steadiness to the soul. For me, the ocean with it’s waves, amalgamate and accommodate all human emotions. It is, thus, a perfect accessory with substance that a person can adorn. Where words may fall short, as a designer I have endeavored to showcase the wonderment of ocean waves through my design, which has been my guiding motive. This design projects the marriage of the crashing waves at high tide and the calmness displayed at low tide. I have explored the freeform, thus paying close attention to the unexpected pattern of the ocean waves at different times of the day. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This design depicts the flow of ocean waves. The ebb and flow of high tide and low tide are expressed on the body of this unique ring. Since tides have a constantly changing shape the curves of the waves are not all symmetrical. The statement ring projects meticulous craftsmanship as it is hand carved from a block of blue carving wax. To further reinforce the ocean wave pattern the waves are raised from a textured background. The vivid contrasting background is then achieved through black rhodium, keeping the ocean waves pure and high polished. Since the ocean is an integral part of one of the elements of nature - water - it was, but obvious, that this design incorporates the element. The addition of the row of pave set diamond denotes the sparkling water from the ocean. Therefore, the singularity of this ring is that it contains not only the design of ocean waves from various angles but also the essence of the magnanimous ocean that soothes the aching human soul, brings delight to the rejoicing man and brings humility to vanity, apart from making a fashion statement for the wearer. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This ring was carved out of a block of jewelers blue wax, which was then casted in silver, using lost wax process. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Length 44mm x Width 27mm x Height/thickness 5mm TAGS: lost wax casting, silver, jewellery, statement ring, tidal, wave, hand carved, unique, original RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research was drawn from the beautiful tidal waves of Pacific Ocean. This ring was carved out of a block of jewelers blue wax, a traditional fabrication method, which was then casted in silver, using lost wax process. CHALLENGE: To understand the lost wax fabrication capability and to translate the beauty and energy of ocean waves in a unique form.
