| DESIGN NAME: Noah PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bathroom product line INSPIRATION: During the research for my project I was studying the theme of water, when I came across the story of Noah and the flood. What instantly got me was the infinite power of water, especially its propulsive energy. After that I discovered the shishi-odoshi. It is a type of water fountain used in Japanese gardens. I wanted to capture the magic of this item and bring it into our bathrooms, keeping it as simple as possible, adding only some minor details to make it more exciting. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Noah faucet is a simple and practical product with a unique, unusual use. I was inspired by the Japanese water fountain, the shishi-odoshi. I wanted to capture the magic of this item and bring it into our bathrooms, keeping it as simple as possible, adding only some minor details to make it more exciting. The Noah product line includes a faucet and a freestanding tub filler. This tap is an innovative, hygienic, environmentally sound and entertaining reconsideration of a trivial object. The name of the product alludes to the female name Noa, which means “movement” or “motion”. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: By tipping the horizontal part, the device supplies water, and it will do so until it is placed in its original position. Using the device with dirty hands should not cause any problem, because the water will wash the area where the tap had been touched. When the control knob is in central position the tap supplies cold water. The right temperature can be set by turning knob on a 120° scale. I designed an extra function to use especially with the bathtub. By pushing the button on the top of this device the horizontal part fills itself up and empties into the tub. The cycle repeats until the button is pushed again. With this feature I wanted to reflect the shishi-odoshi’s pretty motion, but it can be useful as well: it constantly supplies hot water into the bath delaying the loss of temperature. Furthermore, the sound of the dripping water can be very relaxing. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: I started to work on this project in 2014, in Budapest. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: - SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The Noah's dimensions are app. 168 mm x 40 mm x 250 mm. The cylinder's diameter is 40 mm. The height of the product is variable for personal needs.
