DESIGN NAME: Youth to Youth
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bedroom Loft
INSPIRATION: This project was made by reason of our first order.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The idea of the loft was envisioned by a couple.
We validated minimal design and functionality equally which can incorporate male and female differences.
Sheet metal stairs enveloped in the ribbon form a male side, while the descending ribbon itself counters the former with female delicacy on the other.
"The object" with the zigzagged geometry acts as floor and ceiling, stairs and bed, shelves and hidden storage.
The loft complemented by the built-in lighting became a vivid nuance in the apartment.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The project was designed as our first assignment. The loft was planned for a young couple as their 'double bed', so it was a very personal, intimate project. The focus point of the loft is the bed, where the couple could meet as both of them have their own, separate stairs. This solution is the result of our many consultations with the couple, we could collaborate very well.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2014 in Budapest and finished in October 2014.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Interior Space and Exhibition Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Our aim was to compose a homogenous continuous ribbon, which was achieved by using painted fibreboards (MDF) on a steel supporting structure.
Edge of the bed there is a glass wall.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The loft-bedroom is located in the living-room (42,83 m2) of the flat. The loft covers 15,30 m2. The other details can be read in the attached documents.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We were looking for a material and finally chose one that could be used as wall, floor, ceiling and shelf at the same time. To preserve the simplicity of the loft, we didn't want to use more materials beside this one. Our choice was the fiberboard which was painted red-orange after the fitting.
CHALLENGE: First, the most challenging part of the project was the planning. It was very important to achieve the best common design that is possible, so that the couple's requests and our ideas could meet in this finalized concept. After the planning, the other difficult step was the realization, but we had very good specialists.
