DESIGN NAME: Worknic
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lunchbox
INSPIRATION: Living in a world of continuos socio-technological development, makes people lose their primary intuitions, the ones that are hard-coded in their own nature. Therefore, i want to rescue one of those intuitions: the culinary. Nowadays, people are overwhelmed by work and eat by themselves, fast, unattended and do not spend time to relax and appreciate the food they are eating.
Socializing and enjoying the free time during lunch break will help to improve the day, both mentally and physically.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: People are encouraged to have lunch outside the office because the food is ready to eat directly when opened.
When opened, the Worknic cover allows them to cut or sharing food with those around them.
The different containers can be used for all kind of foods or situations needed.
The material's quality have durability and transmit the warmth of being at home.
Worknic fits in any minimum space because of its shape.
Has a tight lid suction that holds for all containers.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Research indicates that people do not like eating at work because sometimes they feel isolated: they do not get up from their desk, lunchboxes are not comfortable, are difficult to transport and to use wherever you want to go and the plastic materials are dirty and pollute the environment. Finally the lunchbox design does not usually feel nice to the user.
Worknic has incorporated in its desing the essential factors for a successful and different experience.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in September 2013 in Madrid, and finished in June 2014 in Madrid. (Spain)

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The cage is Bamboo wood, the bowls are ceramics, and the tight lid suction is silicone.
About the metodology, i thougth about the society and tecnology, and how to use it to change a habit. So i investigate what properties would be needed to achieve.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research was directed towards modern society, time, quality of life and the way that food affects our body and mood. Then I took a meditation process to find a coherent design that could speak for itself and could be understood by the user.
I also felt I should give importance to the fact that it was a product that not only should be linked to work but it also could be used for different plans, anywhere.
So Worknic is not linked with a negative experience such as work, because it look back on pleasant memories.
CHALLENGE: The creative challenge was to find a new philosophy about having lunch at work and in turn, that it was determined in the most functional form. Lunch at work is an experience that, as a general rule, is not pleasant, so I wanted to turn it around and convert it into something attractive . The biggest obstacle I encountered during the project was finding the balance between the philosophy, all the utilities I wanted to incorporate in the design and the physical characteristics of the object.
