| DESIGN NAME: Klotz PRIMARY FUNCTION: Structual coffee table INSPIRATION: Furniture is not just a mere component in the house, but also something staying with you for many years. That is why, I believe it's important to design simple and practical, yet humorous furniture in your home to give you some comfort. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Klotz is a coffee table that has a glass top and wooden legs made of six separate parts. The legs have a block structure constructed by bracing three legs with the other three legs, producing a simple, sculptural form. For the wooden legs, I used two different kinds of oak wood which have different colors. the one with lighter color is light oak, and the one with darker color is black oak. By combining two different colored woods, it creates interesting contrast and makes the structure of legs more clearly. The brand has collaborated with several design studios in Italy, and worked on projects for companies in Italy, Germany, USA, China, and Japan through collaborations. The works cover product design, interior design, graphic design, and art direction. In 2015, Hiraoka co-founded Japanese International Design Award and works as a director of the award.
